Natural treatments for painful menstrual periods
Painful menstrual period or dysmenorrhea is a common condition in women. If you always have painful periods that is probably due to the hormonal changes that happen during the menstrual cycle. The main cause is probably increased production of prostoglandin, a compound similar to hormones that causes uterine contractions during labor or menstrual period. In the menstrual period the contractions control the blood discharge. This condition can be caused of other disorders as well, for example an infection.
Phytotherapy for menstrual disorders
Syrup for period absence because of very thin body or anorexia: mix 500 grams of each of the following ingredients: wheat, rye, barley, corn, oat and wheat bran. In 3 liters of water add the mixture and boil. Afterwards, add some water in order to have 3 liters of liquid again. Strain the liquid while is warm and add one kilogram of honey. Drink 200 ml of the syrup after eating.
Drink sweet flag tea. In 200 ml of cold water add a spoon of sweet flag root and let it soak for 5-6 hours. Then, warm the tea and drink 2 cups a day.
Wine-Mix the following herbs : w
ild strawberries, iris root, 50 gr of yellow gentian, centaury and St John’s wort. In a liter of red wine add 100 gr of the mixture and boil for 10 minutes. Drink 2 spoons before eating. Moreover, make a mixture of 100 gr of ground nettle seed and a kilogram of honey. Consume a spoon of the mixture together with the previous mixture.
Irregular or short periods (hypomenorrhea)
mix the following herbs: 50 gr of yarrow, elecampane root and white horehound, 40 gr of centaury, sage and tansy. In 500 ml of hot water add two spoons of the mixture and boil for 5 minutes.
Drink 100 ml of the liquid 4 times a day before eating.
Tea for improving your poor menstrual period
Tea number 1- mix rose hip, lemon balm, hop, red seeded dandelion and rue. In 500 ml of hot water add two spoons of the mixture and boil for 3 minutes. Let the mixture soak for 30 minutes and then strain. Drink 100 ml of the tea 4 times a day, 15 minutes before eating. Drink 100 ml of the tea before sleeping as well.
Menorrhagia or severe blood loss during the period
Tea number 2- mix the following herbs: rue, nettle, mint, lemon balm, centaury, rosemary, agrimony and spelt. In 500 ml of hot water add 2 spoons of the mixture and boil for 5 minutes. Drink 100 ml of the tea before eating.
